Homecoming

Sunday began very early for me… I woke just before midnight despite getting an early night… it was just too hot to sleep upstairs. It was lucky I did… Gabriel needed a lift home from a gig/party thing in Blean, and Raff had discovered one of his headlights was not working. We got home well after one in the morning, and I decided to sleep on the (very comfortable) patio sofa, outside under the stars, where the air was cool.

The rest of the day was very mellow. Monty unpacked his worldly goods from the car and stashed them away in his room for the time being. I noticed an old photo tucked into the car door—Monty had removed it from his bedroom door just before we left the Loughborough house yesterday. This tiny print of a much younger Monty, starring in a primary school nativity show, was a poignant contrast with the young man who had just returned from university, and would soon be off to new adventures in America.
