My Lovely Boys
Sunday. It’s Father’s Day, and I had the nicest surprise at 06:30 when the front door opened, and Gabriel walked in — home from Manchester a full day early. He’d been driving through the night with his friend Tilly to get back on time. The rest of the gang were delighted to see him, too, and we spent a happy morning chatting and watching movies. V’s at work in Folkestone again today, and Monty is also away — he should get home from Bristol at 19:20 this evening. It’s been another sweltering day, with temperatures up to 27°C and feeling pretty sticky; apparently, it will be even hotter in the coming week. Milo spent the afternoon clearing out his room, removing an old desk and sorting through old clothes to sell on Vinted. Gubs was doing the opposite — moving back into his room for the summer. Given the rather celebratory vibe to the day, I decided we’d all treat ourselves to takeaway for supper, and a rather nice Chinese meal materialised around 8 p.m.
Today’s photo, to celebrate nearly a quarter of a century of fatherhood, had to be a group shot of my five lovely sons. From the left: Raff, Gabriel, Milo, Monty and Dash all humouring the old man for a moment — after all, I had just bought them a Chinese!
