Why the Long Face?

Tuesday. Sleep was elusive, and I was wide awake by 03:00, so I got up and tinkered to save myself from boredom. I decided to make a backup copy of all the text in my blog posts from the last few years, but it turned out to be much more complicated than it needed to be. I learned a lot in the process… including how to write Python scripts with Claude AI and run them on my Mac to extract and format over 300,000 words of text from an enormous XML file. It did this perfectly in about half a second—colour me impressed.

Heavy rain first thing this morning, and very cold—but by the time Dash and I had finished the school run, we’d swapped the rain for a dense fog that blanketed the world. I’m not working today, so I headed along the coast in Kingsdown and Walmer to take pictures of wet rocks, groynes, and boats, and things. Later in the day the rain returned, and I grabbed a nap to catch up on sleep. Raff made sausage, mash and gravy for supper: delicious!
