Buried (With Boobs)
Viking Bay, Broadstairs, July 2014
Another very hot and sunny day - and the boys are on holiday. Today's magical mystery tour of summer fun includes a trip to Viking Bay in Broadstairs. The boys had a wonderful time playing in the sand, and of course, burying brothers was on the agenda. Milo thought it would be funny to make a couple of comedy additions when he buried Gabriel, who told me later that Milo would do this every time! It was rather too sandy for the regular cameras, so this was taken on Vanessa's iPhone.
Viking Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Broadstairs, along with nearby Joss Bay and Stone Bay. The crescent of sand has all the features you would expect from a classic seaside resort; there are changing huts, a promenade and even a pier of sorts. To the northern end of the beach is a small harbour, which is home to a little fleet of fishing boats. Overlooking the harbour is Bleak House, where Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield. There is even a cliff-side elevator at the southern end of the beach if you don’t fancy the climb up to town! Broadstairs is another ‘quintessentially English’ seaside town with excellent provision of ice cream and fish & chips and many quirky little shops and cafes.
Access is pretty easy via the M2/A299 and then the A256 and A255 into the town. In summer the town can get very busy with narrow streets near the seafront, and parking can be very limited - so you should aim to get here very early in the day if you can.
