On the Way to Minnis Bay
Reculver, June 2014
This morning, we took the boys for a brisk walk along the coast, starting at Reculver and heading along the seafront to Minnis Bay. They all did very well, although we didn't quite make the entire walk this time - it’s about a 7-mile round trip. On the way, we stopped now and then so they could play on the beach, and I took this shot of Milo clambering up the shingle slope to the path.
Reculver is a location I have visited a lot - it’s quite close to home for me but has a great variety of things to shoot for photographers, as well as being a good place to bring children and dogs. Apart from the iconic towers, there are beaches with large picturesque rocks, Reculver beach and cliffs, and a clifftop walk that takes you west towards Beltinge and Herne Bay. From Reculver the coastal path and cycleway leads east to Minnis Bay, Westgate-on-Sea and eventually to Margate, part of the Viking Coastal Trail. Access to Reculver is easy from the A299 and it is only a 5-minute drive from the dual carriageway.
