Taking a Break

Viking Coastal Trail, Minnis Bay, Birchington, June 2014

It's Father's Day today - and unfortunately, I had to work. But afterwards, we headed back to the beach with the boys, this time armed with scooters, bikes and a RipStik for Monty. The coastal path from Reculver to Minnis Bay is perfect for the boys to burn off some energy, and for us older folk to do the same to a few calories! I can see this becoming a regular jaunt in the long summer evenings.

This is a location I tend to visit a lot - it’s quite close to home for me, but has a great variety of things to shoot for photographers, as well as being a good place to bring children and dogs. Apart from the iconic towers, there are beaches with large picturesque rocks, Reculver beach and cliffs, and a clifftop walk that takes you west towards Beltinge and Herne Bay. From Reculver the coastal path and cycleway leads east to Minnis Bay, Westgate-on-Sea and eventually on to Margate, part of the Viking Coastal Trail. Access to Reculver is easy from the A299, and it’s only a 5-minute drive from the dual carriageway.
