Telescope
Reculver, August 2015
The salty air filled our lungs, carrying the promise of a perfect summer day. It’s a Friday in mid-August, and freedom stretches before us – annual leave and school holidays aligning for a glorious day trip. Reculver, with its iconic towers, rugged rocks, and sandy beach, beckoned once again as one of our favourite seaside escapes.
This photograph was captured just steps from the car park as we embarked on our seaside adventure. I have a soft spot for these old-fashioned tourist telescopes, marvels of a bygone era. Sure, Milo, ever the pragmatist, declared them defunct relics of the past. But for me, their chipped paint and weathered metal holds a certain charm, whispering stories of countless curious gazes directed out to sea.
Gabriel, ever the explorer, couldn't resist the allure of the telescope. He pressed his face against the cool metal, peering into the distance. The black & white approach adds a touch of timeless whimsy to the scene, focusing on the pure joy of discovery and a child's boundless imagination. This photograph captures a moment and a feeling – the anticipation of adventure, the endless possibilities of a summer day at the seaside. It's a reminder of the simple pleasures that make these memories so precious.
