Along Deal Beach

Wednesday. I had an early start: Dash needed a 5 a.m. retrieval from an overnight party in Stanford, which, it turns out, is right next to the Folkestone Services on the M20. Luckily, McDonald’s was open; coffee and breakfast acquired. It was a clear, fine morning with the promise of warmth again later.

Mid-morning, I headed out for a short photography walk in Deal. After a few photographs by the pier and along the seafront, I stopped for lunch at Hut 55: one of their unfeasibly large sausage rolls and a nice coffee. I got home just in time to meet Harry, the engineer from Kent Cables Ltd, who kindly fixed the network and Wi-Fi issues that had been plaguing Gubs and Milo in the garden room.

In the evening, Milo went into Canterbury to watch the World Cup semi-final with his friends. It’s England vs Argentina tonight. The rest of us — Raff, Gubs, Dash, Vanessa and Tara — ordered Papa John’s pizza and watched the game at home.
