Dash’s Last Day

Friday. It's been another lovely sunny day; up early and out for a short walk at 05:30, then back home for the school run. I dropped Dash off in Canterbury for his last day of the year — and his last day of actual secondary school. He's finishing just after lunch, but he will still be going in on the days when he has a GCSE exam for the next few weeks. Next year, if all goes to plan, he'll be starting sixth form. Tonight, Dash is going to a beach party in Whitstable: it's a bit of a local tradition to gather there to celebrate the end of Year Eleven.

I had a party, of sorts, to go to as well. My work friend Theo is leaving us to go and live in Canada, and this was his last day. A bunch of us headed over to The Penny after work for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Dash got a lift with his friends back to Canterbury around 22:30, where I picked him up and provided an immediate Fireaway pizza takeaway for the journey home. This was lucky, as we discovered that the A2 was closed overnight for roadworks. The drive took well over an hour along narrow country lanes to bypass the obstruction.
