New Pegs
Thursday. Cool and hazy in the morning — we had rain overnight, which the garden welcomed with a small parade. Patches of blue sky returned later. Vanessa got home safely around 2 a.m. while the rest of us were snoozing. Dash gets his GCSE exam results this morning: V will take him to school for eight-thirty so he can find out how he did, and they will text me as soon as he knows. My workday was short, but busy, and finished with one of those vaguely pointless large-group zoom meetings.
It was an afternoon of good news for the clan. Dash did incredibly well with his GCSE results: 4 nines, 4 eights, 2 sevens and a six. In old money, that approximates to eight A-stars, two As and a B. He’s decided to do Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Geography A-levels next year in Sixth Form. Milo got the job he recently interviewed for, and starts his new role in London in early September. Gabriel has more shifts lined up in his holiday job, so he’ll be able to earn some decent money before he goes back to Manchester. We celebrated with a slap-up chinese takeaway: salt-and-pepper spare ribs, seaweed, prawn toast, sweet-and-sour chicken balls, singapore and chicken chow meins, special fried rice, and various other bits and pieces. After that, Dash, Gubs and I watched Avengers: Endgame.
