Chesterfield

Canterbury, May 2018

Another warm Spring afternoon—we have been having a nice run of them. I got home from work at a civilised time and decided to grab a few portrait shots of the boys for my daily photo. Milo was good enough to pose for me, sitting on the slightly battered but much loved hot pink Chesterfield sofa we have in the kitchen. As this project is an entirely monochrome body of work, you’ll just have to trust me here!

It’s still quite bright outside, and this image lent itself to a high-key approach. The fast 56mm portrait lens I’m using really came into its own here, with pin-sharp eyes at the maximum aperture, but the otherwise potentially distracting background was thrown out to a soft pale blur.

Fujifilm X-T2 with XF 56mm f/1.2 lens, 1/125 sec, f/1.2, ISO 400, Lightroom, Silver Efex Pro 2
