Celebrations
Sunday. A really beautiful summer’s day, perfect for a celebration. Lucky, because that was our plan: it’s Milo’s 21st birthday (or will be in a day or two), and Dash’s results also require further festivities. The clan has gathered for the feast. Vanessa retrieved Dash from his all-nighter in Thornden Wood at about eight, with time for a nap and a freshen-up before things kicked off. Milo and Gabriel were likewise recovering from their own nights on the town, and they surfaced with slightly pained expressions around ten. Ed, Tara, Gail and Luca arrived late morning.
We set off in various cars for Sunday lunch at the George & Dragon in Fordwich. Raff had been to Mass in Canterbury, so he met us at the pub. Milo had the gastropub Fish & Chips: excellent, except for the minty mushy peas — definitely a fusion too far. There’s a time and a place for minty peas, and that wasn’t it. Dash won at ordering with his choice of Onglet Steak Frites & Peppercorn Sauce, which apparently tasted as good as it looked. A lovely mixed roast of beef and pork for me.
Back at home, we all spent the afternoon in the garden with quizzes, S’mores, Jumbo Jenga and birthday presents. Domino’s pizza hit the spot when we got hungry later on, and the boys and I settled in to watch Captain America: The First Avenger. Gail’s birthday card for Milo was utterly priceless, so I have nabbed it for today’s photo.
