Salford Quays Skyline
Up at four in the morning, and on the road just after five, taking Gubs to Manchester to begin his university career. We had torrential rain in the southeast, but by the time we were heading north on the M40, the skies cleared for some beautiful autumn weather. The roads were clear all the way, and even with a nice, long rest stop for breakfast, we arrived at Manchester Met around eleven. We got Gabriel unpacked and settled in his room—much bigger than he was expecting. We met some of his flatmates and their parents, too, which was nice. After setting up his room, we took him for a supermarket sweep at the nearby Asda to stock up on food, household supplies, stationery, a WiFi adapter for his PC, a plant for the windowsill and a bedside lamp.
Just after five, we took Gubs and his lovely new flatmate, Ella, out for supper. I found a restaurant just around the corner, called Azuma: it’s a Korean BBQ place where you cook the food yourself on a hotplate in the middle of the table. That was a first for us, and we had great fun working out what to do… but the food was excellent and we all had a laugh. After dinner, we said our goodbyes… Gubs and Ella were off out to start their Freshers’ Week events, while Vanessa and I headed to our room at the AC Marriott Hotel in Salford Quays, looking forward to a good night’s sleep.
